FAQ'S
WHO ARE YOU?
Hello! I'm Sophie, I'm 24 years old, an English Lit & Philosophy graduate, and currently trying to figure out what to do with my life. I want to share my passion for ethical living whether that's through food, beauty products or homeware, and show you how simple it is to live on a vegan lifestyle whilst at uni, work, or travelling, whilst also being able to travel myself.
HOW CAN YOU AFFORD TO TRAVEL?
All my travels are self-funded and often spontaneous. During my gap year I had a full-time job which supplemented my travel costs and when I travelled America I was on a study abroad program living in Chicago for 5 months, followed by self-funded travel. Now that I have graduated, I carried out a paid internship in the Netherlands, and now earn from both social media and other work. You can find out more about them over on my youtube channel
WHAT CAMERA DO YOU USE?
I film all of my youtube videos and take the majority of my pictures on a Canon Powershot G7x, or my iPhone 11.
WHAT IS VEGANISM?
Veganism is a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose.
WHEN DID YOU BECOME VEGAN?
The official date I stopped eating any animal products was 8th October 2014 however it was over the next few months that I also stopped purchasing any animal-tested products and as of now I do not own any.
HOW DID YOU TRANSITION TO VEGANISM?
I moved from being a meat eater to a pescetarian in June 2014, this lasted for around 3 weeks before becoming a vegetarian in July. On October 7th I watched the documentary Earthlings for the first time and the next day I ditched all animal products to become vegan and I have been a vegan ever since. Ditching all animal products pretty much overnight was a lot easier than I had expected and I think going from meat eater to vegan in just a few months was the best decision for me.
HOW CAN I TRANSITION TO VEGANISM?
Even though I went from meat eater to vegan in a matter of months, the decision to ditch all remaining animal products from my diet and become vegan overnight was the way that worked best for me. However I always suggest that you take the transition to veganism at your own pace as everyone is different in terms of the accessibility of their current lifestyle and their approach to changing that. I would recommend firstly finding YOUR motivation to going vegan - whether this be for ethical, environmental or health reasons, as once you discover why you want to transition, any doubts or troubles you have can easily be solved by returning back to this and reminding yourself why you wanted to change in the first place. If you are living with people who have very different views on the topic and they are in charge of your meals then calmly explain to those around you why you want to go vegan and emphasise that it is in fact your choice. If people are unsupportive of you then always remember WHY you want to make this change to your lifestyle.
